Frequently Asked Questions
Clinical Trial Patient

A clinical trial is a research study that tests how well new medical approaches work in people. These studies may test new drugs, devices, or treatment strategies. The goal is to find better ways to prevent, diagnose, or treat diseases.
By participating in a clinical trial, you can help advance medical research and potentially gain access to new treatments before they are widely available. Participation is voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time.
Your safety is our top priority. Clinical trials are regulated by ethical guidelines and overseen by Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) that ensure the study is conducted ethically and safely. You will also be closely monitored by the study team throughout the trial.
  • Phase I: Tests the effectiveness and longevity of the treatment in a larger group.
  • Phase II: Confirms the treatment’s effectiveness, monitors side effects, and compares it to commonly used treatments in large groups
Participation usually involves regular visits to the study site, undergoing medical tests, taking the study medication or treatment, and providing feedback on your experience. The specific procedures will vary depending on the trial.
In some trials, you might receive a placebo (an inactive substance). This is typically done in double-blind studies where neither you nor the researchers know if you’re receiving the treatment or placebo. This helps to ensure unbiased results.
A placebo is a substance or treatment that has no therapeutic effect and is often used as a control in clinical trials. It is designed to look like the real treatment being tested but does not contain any active ingredients.
All clinical trials involve some risk, which could include side effects from the treatment. These risks will be explained to you before you agree to participate, and you’ll be regularly monitored for any side effects.
Some clinical trials offer compensation for your time and travel expenses. The amount and availability of compensation will be discussed with you during the informed consent process.

The duration of a clinical trial varies depending on the study. Some may last only a few weeks, while others could take several years. You will be informed about the expected timeline before you agree to participate.

Yes, you can withdraw from the clinical trial at any time, for any reason, without penalty. Your decision will not affect your relationship with your healthcare provider or access to other treatments.
Your privacy is protected by confidentiality agreements and privacy laws. Your personal information and medical data will be kept secure and used only for the purposes of the study. Your identity will not be revealed in any reports or publications.

You will be provided with contact information for the research staff and other relevant personnel. You can reach out to them at any time with questions or concerns. You can also call Discovery Clinical trials main number at 855-468-7788 and our professionals will be happy to answer any questions.
